International Day of Democracy is observed annually on September 15, in accordance with the UN General Assembly resolution adopted in 2007.

Goals and Objectives of the Holiday
International Day of Democracy serves to:

Promote and support democracy throughout the world, emphasizing its importance as a system of government based on citizen participation in decision-making.
Protect human rights, freedom of speech, assembly and association, which are fundamental elements of democratic societies.
Draw attention to problems of democracy, such as its weakening, undermining forces and tendencies, and promote broader understanding of these problems and the search for solutions.
Promote free and fair elections, inclusive participation in politics and equality of all citizens in political processes.

Events
On this day, many countries and organizations hold various events, including:

Conferences and seminars that discuss current challenges and successes of democratic processes.
Actions and demonstrations aimed at protecting human rights and freedom of speech.
Educational campaigns on the meaning of democracy, its principles and the role of citizens in protecting democratic rights and freedoms.

International Day of Democracy reminds us that democracy is not just a form of government, but an ongoing process that requires participation, protection and development. In the face of global challenges - from climate change to economic crises - democracy remains the main mechanism for creating sustainable, just and inclusive societies.
